Golf in Montenegro is still in an early stage of development, which is precisely what makes it such a compelling proposition at this moment. While the country is traditionally recognised for its coastline, historic towns, and dramatic mountain landscapes, a new dimension of the destination is steadily emerging. Golf is beginning to establish itself as part of Montenegro’s long-term tourism vision, driven by projects that prioritise quality, positioning, and destination value over scale alone.
At the forefront of this evolution is the Luštica Bay Golf Course, situated on the Luštica Peninsula. Conceived as a future 18-hole championship course, it combines striking coastal scenery, varied elevation, and the prestige of a Gary Player Signature Design. Even in its current phase, the course offers visitors the opportunity to engage with a project of exceptional long-term ambition, while witnessing the gradual development of what is set to become a distinctive golf destination in the region.
Is There Golf in Montenegro?
Yes, although the offering is still relatively limited when compared to more established golf destinations in Southern Europe. That said, this earlier stage of development creates a distinctly different experience. Courses are generally less crowded, the pace is more relaxed, and the overall atmosphere feels more private, refined, and exclusive.
The Luštica Bay Golf Course currently represents the most significant golf development in Montenegro. As the project continues to evolve in the coming years, it is expected to play a defining role in positioning the country within the European golf landscape and in establishing Montenegro as a credible and distinctive emerging golf destination.
Why Luštica Bay Golf Course Stands Out
Gary Player Interview at Luštica Bay Golf Course
A Gary Player Signature Course
The course is being developed as an 18-hole, par-72 Gary Player Signature Design, reflecting both direct design involvement and a long-term vision centred on strategy, playability, and a strong sense of place. Gary Player’s design philosophy is widely recognised for combining challenge with accessibility, a balance that is already evident in the emerging layout at Luštica Bay.

Sea Views Across the Entire Course
Set above the Adriatic coastline, the course has been routed so that every hole benefits from open sea views. This is a rare characteristic in global golf design and one that adds a distinctive visual quality to the overall playing experience, reinforcing the course’s unique sense of place.

Elevation That Shapes the Game
The terrain ranges from approximately 130 to 310 metres above sea level. These elevation changes influence club selection, shot trajectory, and overall course strategy, giving each hole a distinct character and contributing to a more varied and engaging playing experience.
How to Get to the Golf Course (Shuttle Service)
Access to the Luštica Bay Golf Course is managed through a dedicated shuttle service. Transportation is coordinated by the Clubhouse team upon confirmation of a round, lesson, or simulator session.
- Shuttle pick-up is typically arranged from Centrale
- The main boarding point is located near the central parking area
- Exact timing and logistics are confirmed in advance by the Clubhouse team
- The same service is provided for return transfers
This approach helps ensure a well-organised arrival experience and supports a smooth and consistent guest journey from start to finish.
What the Golf Experience Looks Like Today
Although the full championship layout remains under development, the Luštica Bay Golf Course is already operational and welcoming guests.
The current offering includes:
- Three playable holes (par 3, par 4, and par 5)
- A driving range
- Chipping and putting areas
- A golf academy with private coaching
- A TrackMan simulator
This format is well suited to a broad range of visitors. Beginners can take their first lesson in an approachable setting, while more experienced players can use the facilities to refine specific aspects of their game. It also lends itself particularly well to shorter visits and more relaxed golf experiences.
There is, however, a further dimension to the appeal. Experiencing the course at this stage offers guests a sense of participation in its evolution, with the opportunity to return as new phases are completed and the destination continues to develop.

Development Timeline
The course is being developed in clearly defined phases.
| Phase | Golf Offering | Timeline |
| Phase 1 | 3 holes + driving range | Open since Spring 2025 |
| Phase 2 | 9-hole course | 2026–2027 |
| Phase 3 | 18-hole championship course | 2028–2029 |

Montenegro as a Golf Destination
Montenegro is still emerging as a golf destination, and that is precisely what gives it a distinctive appeal. Unlike long-established golf regions, it offers a sense of discovery, where the experience feels less commercialised, more intimate, and closely connected to the character of the destination itself.

Several factors support this positioning. The country benefits from a Mediterranean climate that allows for an extended playing season, while its relatively limited golf supply means courses are generally less crowded and the pace of play more relaxed. At the same time, Montenegro’s exceptional natural diversity, from its Adriatic coastline to its mountainous interior, creates a striking visual and environmental backdrop that is unusual even by broader European standards.
This is further strengthened by the continued growth of the country’s luxury tourism infrastructure, including high-end resorts, branded residences, marinas, and internationally positioned hospitality concepts. As a result, golf in Montenegro is increasingly able to sit within a wider premium travel experience, rather than existing as a standalone activity.
As developments such as the Luštica Bay Golf Course continue to evolve, Montenegro is steadily becoming more relevant within the landscape of golf-focused travel. Its long-term potential lies not in competing on volume with traditional golf destinations, but in offering a more exclusive, scenic, and experience-led alternative within the Mediterranean market.
